Description

Take a virtual field trip with your class and explore safe houses (stations) on the Underground Railroad. This Google Slides product also includes a PowerPoint version. This lesson includes links to videos of actual safe houses, as well as background information on the journey runaway slaves took. This lesson explains that the Underground Railroad had to remain a secret – so different runaways took different paths to freedom. It explores the reality that most of the journey was outdoors, and nature was the guide that most runaway slaves used to begin their journey.

This lesson contains links to 7 videos, background information on the following conductors of the Underground Railroad: Nathaniel and William Brinkley, John Brown, Levi and Catharine Coffin, Abraham Gibbs, and Harriet Tubman. The lesson also explains that there were many more conductors on the Underground Railroad – the names of most we will never know because it had to remain a secret.
